Confidentiality & safeguarding
You should know, before you share anything, how it is looked after and the few times we may have to act. Here it is, plainly.
What you share stays with us.
You are safe here with us.
What you tell us in coaching, mentoring or therapy is private. We do not discuss who our clients are, and we do not share what you tell us without your agreement, apart from the limits below.
We keep any notes to what is useful and keep them secure. Rya, as a therapist, takes her work to supervision, where cases are discussed without identifying you, as professional ethics require.
When we may need to share.
We will always aim to be open with you about this. Very occasionally we may need to share information, and where it is safe and possible we will tell you first. This could be when:
- You or someone else is at serious risk of harm
- A child or an adult at risk may be being harmed or is in danger
- The law requires it, for example a court order or certain serious offences
We would share only what is necessary, with the people who need to know.
Looking out for those who cannot always speak for themselves.
We take the safety of children and vulnerable adults seriously. If something you tell us, or something we notice, makes us worried that a child or an adult at risk is being harmed, we will act. That may mean speaking to the local authority, the police or another appropriate service.
If you are worried about a child or someone vulnerable, you can tell us. We will listen, and help you think about what to do next.
Held to a standard.
Rya is a member of the BACP and the BABCP, and works to the BACP's Ethical Framework. If something ever feels wrong, please tell us. We would rather know, and we will take it seriously.
Therapy and coaching are not emergency services. If you are in danger or need urgent help, see Crisis Support or call 999.
Questions about any of this?
Ask us before you begin. We are glad to explain.
